Today, EFMD announced the winners of the annual EFMD Case Writing Competition in 17 categories representing critical managerial areas. INSEAD cases won in two categories.

Lara Bekhazi, INSEAD MBA’17D, Martin Schweinsberg, Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at ESMT, Horacio Falcão, Professor of Management Practice at INSEAD, and Eric Uhlmann, Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD, won the Women in Business category for the case “Dual Career Negotiation: Role of Alma” and “Role of Pierre”. This two-party, multi-issue role play simulation explains how traditional gender roles and family responsibilities intersect with professional careers and unequal division of labour – unpaid in the home – within dual-income couples. The authors say: “We were thrilled to learn that the Dual Career Negotiation was selected as EMFD's 2020 Women in Business case writing award winner! The case is based on a true story, and represents the real-life challenges that many dual-career couples are navigating today. Through the case role-play, our hope is to up-end gendered stereotypes around career prioritisation, especially for our female protagonist who has higher earning potential and is more career-oriented by nature.” The role play is part of the INSEAD free case collection. Instructors, students and professionals can download it on this page.

Professors of Strategy, W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, co-directors of the INSEAD Blue Ocean Strategy Institute and co-authors of the New York Times Bestseller and a #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller, Blue Ocean Shift: Beyond Competing - Proven Steps to Inspire Confidence and Seize New Growth (Hachette, 2017), and the global bestseller Blue Ocean Strategy (2005, Expanded Edition 2015), and Mi Ji, Institute Senior Executive Fellow at the INSEAD Blue Ocean Strategy Institute, received the award in the Finance and Banking category for their case, “Fintech: Innovation without Disruption – How Prodigy Finance Achieved both High Growth and Social Good”. “We are honored to receive this recognition for our case,” said the authors. “Prodigy Finance identified and solved a burning problem that had never been addressed before, created a new market beyond existing industry boundaries, unlocking and capturing a burgeoning new demand without displacing the existing businesses of the finance industry. This nondisruptive approach to market creation is most needed for reviving our businesses, economies and societies in the post-pandemic world.” The case illustrates a great example of new market creation without disruption, i.e., nondisruptive creation, a concept created by INSEAD Professors W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne. More cases on Blue Ocean Strategy and nondisruptive creation are available on this page.
